
Nyah Hardmon is a journalist, radio personality, spoken word poet and graphic designer. To Nyah, the most fascinating aspect of journalism is the ability to use different means of communication to channel her voice and express both her own story and the narratives of others.
What Does Nyah Do?
Nyah Hardmon is a music journalist who has worked with Universal Music Group, Beats By Dre, Howard University’s WHBC and Washington D.C.’s WHUR. She was also part of the Recording Academy’s and Amazon Music’s inaugural Black Music Collective scholarship and immersive rotational program in Los Angeles, California. As a writer, she has written for the Washington Independent Review of Books, Poetry Magazine, TeenEye Magazine, Affinity Magazine, Howard University’s Jade Magazine, Howard University’s Sterling A. Brown English Society Magazine and The Hilltop. She has done podcast work with the South Florida nonprofit organization Art Prevails Project and the New York based nonprofit organization HBCU First. Her poetry has been nationally recognized by the YoungArts Foundation, SoFar Sounds and the United States Presidential Scholar in the Arts Program.

What Skills Does Nyah Have?
Nyah has taken a multitude of communications courses that have equipped her with key reporting skills. For example, she has passed the Fundamentals of Journalism, Intro to Media Production, Intro to Mass Communications, Intro to Digital Design, Multimedia Storytelling and Digital Media Literacy courses. This has made her proficient in softwares like Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere, Canva and Inshot. She is knowledgable in editing video, audio and written work. She is also EGUMPP certified.
What Awards Have Nyah Won?
In 2021, Nyah was recognized by the White House as a Presidential Scholar for her journalist work. Amazon Music awarded her the Black Futures scholarship in collaboration with the Recording Academy. Throughout her career, she has received accolades by the Miami Herald’s Silver Knight program and Day Eight’s writing fellowship. The Florida Scholastic Press Association, Dow Jones News Fund and the National Council of Teachers of English are more examples of organizations that have recognized Nyah’s journalistic work.
